Back in the day, getting diagnostic imaging of your pet’s body used to be a lot more difficult. The equipment was clunky and difficult to use. The process took a lot of time, and often the results were less than optimal.
Today, thanks to modern technology and a better knowledge base, veterinary digital imaging is more accessible and informative than ever before.
Learn how veterinary digital imaging at True Care Veterinary Hospital helps our pet patients.
Getting to Know Veterinary Digital Imaging
Diagnostic testing is often the cornerstone of obtaining a diagnosis in our pet patients. Physical examination, blood and urine tests, fecal examinations, and other diagnostics can give us a lot of information. Oftentimes, diagnostic imaging is also part of the process.
At True Care Veterinary Hospital, we rely on two main forms of imaging: radiographs and ultrasound. These modalities allow us to gain more information about what is going on inside of your pet.
Radiographs – Radiographs, also commonly called X-rays, use low doses of gamma radiation in order to create an image. Using this technology, we can create a detailed, two-dimensional picture of your pet’s chest, abdominal cavity, and bony structures. This picture is created in grayscale, allowing us to learn about the relative size and shape of organs and structures within the body.
Ultrasound – Ultrasound, on the other hand, uses sound waves to create an image of the chest or abdomen. This picture is created in real time and provides a more detailed analysis of the individual organs. Ultrasound can also be utilized to guide us when obtaining samples for biopsy or analysis.
Only the Best
Radiographs and ultrasound are diagnostic techniques that existed long before the digital age, but as with so many things, digitizing them has only made them better and more powerful. Veterinary digital imaging has revolutionized how we do things in veterinary medicine.
Having access to digital X-rays and ultrasound means:
- A faster, less stressful experience for your pet
- A clearer, detailed high-definition image
- Less radiation exposure for pets and people
- Ease of viewing throughout the hospital
- Ability to electronically send the information to radiologists for their interpretation
- Portability for referral to a specialist or transportation of records
By digitizing this technology, everyone wins. True Care Veterinary Hospital is utilizing digital radiography to help our patients every day. We also work with an ultrasound specialist when needed to provide the best care possible.
Veterinary digital imaging is an important part of the equation when it comes to diagnosing and treating pets. We are happy to be able to provide this technology and continue to bring the highest quality veterinary medicine to our clientele.
